Sometimes, I think standing may have more benefit in sustaining your sound, especially in situations where you don't tend to have a lot of options to pause. When you don't have the ability to easily stop, take a breath, and resume, every bit of air you get with each breath matters. When I was in a choir and had to project, people could tell if the bass suddenly and awkwardly dropped off for a second. It was similar when I played saxophone (although it's usually easier to sneak breaths in or even use circular breathing).
While I still use all those high school band / college drama course lessons about breath support while seated, I find that in my recording space, the ability to pause, take some breaths, double-check my posture, and then resume recording makes it more forgiving if I don't get absolutely the maximum amount of air with each breath. The forgiveness level goes even higher if the tone is conversational because people pause and breathe in their conversations.
Record standing or seated? I've never given it much thought honestly. Lately I've been standing more. Tomorrow I may feel more lazy and remain seated.
Hi Bill. Thanks for the video and the update. I stand up in my home booth, but I built a new 5' x 4' x 7' (Tall) booth which has plenty of room for a chair. i am just not used to having anything in there but my mic, copy, and lights. I need to find a chair that makes no noise, if I do get one.
I was seriously considering a 'kneeling' position chair, with memory foam, for encouraging proper posture while reducing fatigue. I've stood for periods of time where my feet became so sore that they were swollen the next day.
As for coffee I really enjoy Cameron's organic 'Woods & Water'.
What are your thoughts on the proliferation of the annoying robot voices. I hear them often.
I can hardly see you with that camouflage shirt !
I guess as a singer you sing better and let your diaphram work better with standing.
I am a member of Mallory’s 5rr class but can’t attend live tonight. I am not sure where to submit questions. My questions for her are - Which rights are needed if the project will be sold, ie an eLearning class? Also, if a job involves 2 scripts, do you charge separately for rights for each script? Are rights needed for a telemarketing project? Thanks!
