Why is Premiere' PLAYBACK PERFORMANCE slow as fudge all of the sudden? Because it implemented a cool new feature that can actually be horrible on the wrong system (most systems?!?). Maybe they forgot to test with non-workstation GPUs or on low quality motherboards? If I knew for a fact that a non-cheap motherboard upgrade will make this work as intended - I think definitely yes. I've recently started make more 4K videos. The higher the resolution and more complicated the project, the higher chance of getting lags during playback. Therefore, until now I could play the playback at full resolution without any significant lag. In order to minimize lag and to make the preview video to run smoothly, you got to reduce the playback resolution from full to 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, or 1/16. The lower the playback resolution, the more smoothly you could play the preview. But if you want to play the video in full resolution and check the high quality playback, then you got to render the whole sequence or a portion of the timeline. If you close the project and open it again, then the render will be lost and you'll have to render it again! Usually fixing the red areas of the timeline is enough for getting a smooth playback! Render "Effects In to Out" takes much shorter time to render but it might not completely get rid of lagging. Selecting "Render In to Out" will take longer time to render but it'll completely get rid of lagging. By upgrading your graphics card and making some other changes to your systems settings, you could further minimize lagging! How to Fix Premiere Pro Playback Lag!!! If you've tried almost everything and nothing has worked this may help you!
If you're watching this video, most likely you are experiencing playback lag in Premiere Pro. There are a lot of factors that can affect the playback on your computer or laptop, but this process is one of the most effective solutions to fixing playback lag (out of my own experience) All you have to do is head on over to Graphics Settings on your Windows device, and from there select the Desktop App you want to modify. If you never modified these settings, the mode will be "Let Windows Decide" The two modes that are available in the Graphics Settings Panel, are Battery Saving Mode, and Performance. We, as video editors should value Performance over Battery Life, so click HIGH PERFORMANCE! After changing these Graphics Display Settings, you will be able to notice just how much better the playback quality now is in Premiere Pro. Tweaking the GPU settings, helped me get rid of Playback Lag on most 720p and 1080p clips. In fact, I could even play them in full resolution! How To Fix Playback LAG in Premiere Pro and how to Part 2: How to Fix Premiere Pro Playback Lagging Issue 1. Change playback resolution You can change the playback resolution for your video without altering its export resolution. This can reduce playback lag significantly. To make this change, click the playback resolution dropdown menu (the ‘full’ button) and select any of 4 options to reduce the playback resolution to a fraction of the native resolution (1/2, 1/4, 1/6 or 1/8). 2. Remember to turn off quality playback While high-quality playback is desirable as it lets you see your video in a resolution closest to how it will look when exported or uploaded to YouTube. This option can reduce the performance of Premiere Pro. Disabling the high-quality playback option is also another way to quickly resolve playback lag. Simply go to the program monitor settings and deselect the high-quality playback option. 2. Remember to turn off quality playback While high-quality playback is desirable as it lets you see your video in a resolution closest to how it will look when exported or uploaded to YouTube. 💻 Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2022 - Playback Slow / Lagging FIX 🎥 After upgrading to the latest version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2022 version I was a bit shocked that playback was so slow and laggy. As I already had my playback set to 1/4 resolution I was worried however I started to play around with the settings and worked out that actually playback at full 1:1 resolution works great now 😁... impressive Adobe 👏!!! Make sure you have the checked your Windows Updates or MAC OSX updates as well before doing the other steps Step 1 - Make sure your Nvidia graphics drivers are up to date Step 2 - Updated Adobe Premier software, and restart application Step 3 - Turn off the High Quality Playback Step 4 - Edit - Preferences - General - Look for Media Cache Clear the Media cache and reopen Adobe Premier Step 5 - Edit - Preferences - General - Memory Adjust the RAM reserved to 6GB and close the application and reopen it Step 6 - Edit - Preferences - General - Memory Change the optimize rendering to Memory instead of Performance, close and reopen Adobe Premier Step 7 - Edit - Preferences - General - Media If you're using Intel or AMD with an Nvidia graphics card you should see something like H264/HEVC hardware accelerated decoding and encoding options. Intel users should see an option available under the decoding that could be turned off first before turning the whole decoding option off. Try that and see if it works If not, select the H264/HEVC hardware accelerated decoding option and remove the tick option, click OK and close Adobe Premier. Reopen it and it should work Note - its been noted that it has resolved a lot of issues in the past and seems to work well. Last resort Step 6 - Edit - Preferences - General - Audio Hardware Go under the Audio Hardware and look under Default Input, change it to No Input and try playing the video, if it works without any issues then you know its working fine for future reference
