WALNUT CREEK (CBS 5) Next time you sell a used car, you may want to want to ask the buyer to sign the title deed (pink slip) in your presence. That hadn't occurred to Christine Brownwesthoff of Walnut Creek when she sold her car to a buyer who responded to her Craigslist posting. The next day, she discovered her car re-listed for $2000 more. "Good on him, he's making a couple of grand," Brownwesthoff initially thought. But then she took a closer look at the ad and noticed it promised the car had a new engine with paperwork to prove it. She realized it was unlikely the engine had been replaced within the 24 hours since she sold the car, and when she looked at her copy of the pink slip she worried that she might be held liable. "He had not signed as the buyer, I had only signed as the seller. I'm assuming he's going to give the pink slip to the next buyer which would bypass him completely; making it look like I sold the car and lied about the new engine." said Brownwesthoff. Concerned, her roommate contacted the seller posing as an interested buyer. That's when Brownwesthoff confirmed he was selling the car under her name along with a forged receipt for the new motor. The seller claimed his name was Angelo Marks and that Christine was his wife. He created an elaborate story about why she had to have the engine replaced three years prior. Brownwesthoff then contacted ConsumerWatch and the team accompanied her roommate to meet the alleged scammer for a second time. When confronted, he didn't seem to care that he was in violation of state law that requires a secondhand dealers' license to sell a car under someone else's name. Before driving off, he denied that he forged the paperwork for the new engine. The Craiglist posting was removed the following day. The DMV fraud department was investigating and warned buyers are not required to sign the pink slip in front of a seller, but the seller can certainly ask. . The seller, however, is required to file a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability with the DMV, within 5 days. That can easily be done online at 🤍dmv.ca.gov/online/nrl/welcome.htm

On November 1, 2019, Gisbertt Granado was driving in front of central Florida Walmart store when she struck a man who just had a knee replacement. She had been driving carelessly, not paying attention to what was in front of the deadly weapon she controlled, and he was in pain. Almost immediately, the man started talking about his lawyer. After all, as a pedestrian in a crosswalk he clearly had the right of way, and this lady had dragged him for almost ten seconds. Granado wasn't looking where she was going. Fortunately for Granado, Walmart's cameras were paying attention and they told a different story. Just prior to meeting the guy, Gradando had stopped for a pedestrian in the crosswalk, showing that she had, in fact, been paying attention. At the time of the horrible collision she was driving somewhere between zero and two miles per hour. To top it all off, the man had clearly, and abruptly, walked right in front of (and into) Granado's car. Granado stopped almost immediately, and certainly as soon as could be expected. D-Money of Extreme Uber Rides bringing you this new video of the absolute WORST ride he has ever given. This video shows an increasingly common type of Uber scam called Short-Stopping. Unlike the canceled Uber ride scam, a short-stop scam is pretty simple: the passenger enters a false destination into the app which is a much shorter ride than the distance to their real destination, and then once the car arrives at the false address, the rider either tries to convince you to drive the rest of the way for free, or they offer to pay you cash for the remainder of the trip. Their goal is always to save a few bucks on their ride, at the driver’s expense. In this example I’ll show you how to deal with a passenger who pulls this scam on you, and how to respond when the road gets a little bumpy. For anyone unable to come to obvious conclusions on their own, this video is a joke meant to satirize YouTube Uber ride videos.

We were hoping to come back with a VQ35 swapped S13 240sx but the test drive did not go as planned. The car obviously had more problems than just the ignition switch. We are not trying to blackmail or embarrass this "mechanic who does this for a living". We just want to inform the public to be careful when buying a car from a private seller because some of them are shady. The deposit was for him to hold the car and to work on it since he said the build was not finished and not running properly. After depositing the money, he said the car would be ready and reliable in 1 week. He kept lagging and pushing the date back till about 1 month later (when previous video was filmed). A single dad is warning people about a man using Craiglist under the guise of selling a car, only to lure and then rob unsuspecting buyers. Mark Morgan's sister loaned him $3,000 so that he could buy a car he saw on Craiglist. The two met the seller at a Walmart in Katy last weekend, when the unthinkable happened.
UPDATE link to Ebook! * 🤍 In March 2014 we bought a car off craigslist from Frisco, TX from Bryon Jones. His wife was the owner on the title and present at the time of sale. Mark test drove the car and paid $2,500 cash for it. Within minutes of the drive home the check engine light came on. Our mechanic saw that the engine was irreparable. He knew right away that owner misrepresented the condition of the car. He told us not to drive it and from that point forward it's been untouched. It took us 6 months, $350, 2 private investigators and a ton 3-4 hour round trip driving in order to get everything together in order to file paper work to go to court. Filing with the court had addition costs and time. After filing we received a letter from Bryon's wife's lawyer. That letter showed us that we were desperate for legal help. 14 months after buying the car we finally made it in front of the judge. Bryon and his wife had divorced by this time. Bryon left full responsibility on her, sadly. We originally were suing for $2,500 + court costs. The lawyers changed the petition and requested damages totaling $10,000. In the end we were awarded $7,500. Several months after going to court we've just filed the last of the paper work. We hope to receive payment though nothings guaranteed. This took way longer than expected but was a huge relief go in front of the judge with a team of lawyers and be heard. 🤍 🤍 🤍 🤍
